A name has been recommended for the appointment of the first Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the Shahid Dashrath Chand University of Health Sciences in Dhangadhi, Sudurpaschim Province.
The names of one person for the Vice Chancellor and three for the Registrar have been recommended for the Vice Chancellor and Registrar, Coordinator Jayaraj Awasthi. He said that the name has been recommended for Pro-Chancellor and Education Minister Mahabir Pun.
‘Only two applications were received for the Vice Chancellor. Out of them, one application was not accepted because the application process was not completed. We have sent only one name,’ he said, ‘Three names have been recommended for the Registrar.’ One of them will be appointed. According to the university act, the appointment will be made from the recommendations by calling a meeting of the assembly. The names of those recommended by the committee have not been disclosed.
After not receiving applications for the Vice Chancellor, the committee issued a notice for the third time and called for applications. After not receiving applications twice, Shiksha Pun also called on social media for those who want to become the Vice Chancellor to contact him. The recommendation committee had called for applications for the Vice Chancellor for the first time on Kartik 16 and for the second time on Kartik 30. After not a single application was received, the committee extended the time for submission of applications until November 28.
Out of the 10 applications received by the registrar, seven were shortlisted and called for an interview. Khemraj Joshi of Kanchanpur, Govinda Singh Bista of Baitadi, Double Bahadur Dhami of Bajhang, Damaru Prasad Paneru of Kanchanpur, Padmaraj Joshi of Kailali, Bhim Bahadur Chand of Baitadi and Shiva Prasad Sapkota of Kailali were shortlisted. Three of them have been recommended.
After the university act was passed by parliament in Ashar last year, the government has moved forward with the process of appointing the vice-chancellor and registrar. After the appointment of the office bearers, the university aims to start medical education in the Far West Province.
