Victim savers from five different cooperatives across the country, managed by GB Rai, met Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal in Kathmandu on Friday and requested them to take initiatives to resolve the problem.

The victim savers of the cooperatives, whose problems have not been resolved despite meeting the Prime Minister and ministers several times in the past three years, have met the ministers of the government formed after the Gen-G movement for the first time.

Shalikram Duwadi, coordinator of the struggle committee formed by the victim savers of the Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative Organization, headquartered in Bharatpur, said that they have demanded the arrest of the absconding main defendant GB Rai, who is the director of all five cooperatives, and have submitted grounds for getting the money back. The victim savers have submitted nine grounds for getting the money back to the ministers.

These include declaring these cooperatives in crisis immediately, confiscating the frozen assets and returning them to the savers, and arresting the absconding main defendant GB Rai and others immediately. Similarly, they have also demanded that the government should urge the debtors scattered in the local market to pay off their debts and resolve the cases of these cooperatives as soon as possible.

‘We have asked the Home Minister to increase special activity to arrest GB Rai . We have asked the Finance Minister to take the initiative to return the money,’ said Coordinator Duwadi . He said that Finance Minister Khanal has promised to discuss this issue if a proposal comes from the Ministry of Cooperatives . Similarly, Duwadi said that Home Minister Aryal said that the government is also trying to arrest the absconding defendants .

There is talk that GB Rai has left Nepal and is living in Malaysia . GB Rai, the founding chairman and director, has opened Sahara in Chitwan, Supreme in Butwal, Suryodaya in Pokhara, Swarnalakshmi in Kathmandu and Sano Paila in Birgunj  cooperatives. The letter submitted by the victims to the minister states that about 80,000 savers have been embezzled from these five cooperatives.

Representatives of all five governments have met the ministers . Duwadi said that they plan to meet the Cooperative Minister on Sunday . He said that although he wanted to meet the Prime Minister, he had not received any definite information. 'It has been almost three years since we started going.' Despite meeting the Prime Ministers and Home Ministers repeatedly, the problem has not been resolved. Now, I hope that this government will do something,' said Duwadi.
