UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli's ancestral home in Tehrathum, which was destroyed by fire during the Gen-G protests, is being rebuilt in its original style.

Chairman Oli's ancestral house in Iwa village of Aathrai Rural Municipality-5 was destroyed by arson by protesters on Bhadra 24. UML Tehrathum Chairman Shiva Prasad Dhungana informed that the debris of the burnt house is being removed and a new house is being built on the same site.

After Chairman Oli's verbal approval, a new house is being built for Oli in the old style under the management and supervision of Youth Union Nepal, UML District and Village Committees, he said. Dhungana said that a study, veranda, kitchen and living room will be built in the new house. He said that a thatched roof will be installed in the old design using clay and wood. ‘We are building a new house for the President in the same form and shape as before,’ said Dhungana, ‘The President’s house was not just a statue made of stone and clay, it was a heritage of history and politics, we have reached the decision to build a new house to preserve history even if the previous one is destroyed.’

UML Tehrathum Vice-Chairman and Chhathar Rural Municipality Chairman Santabir Limbu informed that the land where the house is being built for Oli is in the name of Radhika Trust. Limbu said that the cost of building the house is being met by the Youth Association Nepal. ‘The cost of building the house is 5-7 lakh rupees, that amount is being raised by the Youth Association Center with the help of party members, friends and well-wishers, it is being done voluntarily.’

One floor has been constructed by giving a contract to local carpenters and masons to build the house. Limbu said that labor will be used to collect materials such as thatch, other wood and bamboo for the roof. 'We will go to cut the thatch ourselves, carry it together, put the roof on and make it neat.' Limbu said that the goal is to complete the construction of the house before the monsoon. Limbu said that after the construction is completed, Chairman Oli will be invited to the new house. 'We are not in a position to go out now, we will invite him after the house is built, he will definitely come.' Iwagaun is about 70 kilometers from the Tehrathum district headquarters, Myanglung, and two and a half kilometers from the Mid-Hill Highway.'
