A feasibility study is being conducted to bring pure water from Bagdwar, the source of the Bagmati River, to Pashupatinath for bathing.

The decision was taken at a meeting coordinated by Gokarneshwor Municipality Mayor Deepak Risal, Budhanilkantha Municipality Mayor Mitharam Adhikari, Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Mayor Upendra Karki, and Pashupati Area Development Fund Executive Director Subhash Chandra Joshi.

Pashupatinath is being bathed by bringing pure water from Bagadwar located on the border of Gokarneshwor and Budhanilkantha municipalities in Shivpuri Nagarjuna National Park.

According to experts, Pashupatinath was bathed with water from the Bagmati River until 2040 BS. As the Bagmati became polluted, wells were dug in the Pashupati area to bathe Pashupatinath. Although efforts have been made to bring water from Bagadwar to bathe Pashupatinath since a decade and a half ago, it has not been successful. Former Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha was involved in this campaign.

The first phase of work has been started to bring pure water from Bagadwar to bathe the revered deity Pashupatinath through various religious places, informed Joshi, the Executive Director of the Fund.
