Kawad businessmen have demanded an immediate end to the beatings, kidnappings, abuses, and demolitions of structures against Kawad workers.

The Kawad Businessmen's Struggle Committee made this demand at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday. The committee has also accused the Kathmandu Metropolitan City of unjustly oppressing the Kawad collection businessmen, workers and the poor for the past two years.

Kawad businessmen Om Prakash Singh said that although the Kawad businessmen have been supplying the necessary raw materials for the metal industry operating in the country, the metropolis is doing injustice to the businessmen. He claimed that the Kawad business has been making a significant contribution to reducing the country's trade deficit, increasing revenue collection and also to environmental cleanliness. He demanded an immediate stop to the beatings, demolition of structures, confiscation of goods, seizure of bicycles, kidnapping of people and creating mental terror against the Kawad collection businessmen and workers.

He demanded an immediate stop to the beatings, kidnapping, atrocities and demolition of structures against the Kawad workers and legal action should be taken against the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police and the responsible persons involved in this.

He said, "The raw materials required for various metal industries are being supplied by the garbage collectors. The garbage collector business plays a major role in reducing the country's trade deficit and also in revenue collection. We would like to inform you that currently more than one lakh people are directly involved in this business. The garbage collector business also contributes to environmental cleanliness. However, for the past two years, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has been continuously committing unjust acts, physical torture, demolition of structures, confiscation of property, kidnapping of people, taking bicycles and creating mental terror against garbage collectors, workers and the poor general public."

He also called on the sidewalk merchants and other small businessmen who have been victimized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to cooperate with him. He also warned that if the government does not address their demands as much as possible, he will take forward additional agitation programs in collaboration with the Genji generation.
