The hearing in the case against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane and former DIG and then Gorkha Media owner Chhabilal Joshi has been scheduled for today as well. The hearing is expected to be held today after the hearing was postponed several times earlier.

The hearing scheduled for November 25 was postponed after it was deemed 'unwatchable'. Before that, the hearing scheduled for November 11 was postponed at the request of the legal practitioner on Lamichhane's side. Thus far, the hearing has been postponed twice by Rabi Lamichhane and once by Chhabilal Joshi.

The court's information officer, Ram Bahadur Kunwar, informed that the hearing was scheduled for Thursday on the petition filed against the district court's order, demanding that the case be heard outside the detention center by paying an amount equal to the amount of the fine. 'The hearing has been scheduled for today. Since Rabi Lamichhane's side has already postponed the hearing twice before, there is a possibility that the hearing will be held today,' he said.

This is the seventh consecutive hearing of Lamichhane and Joshi, who are in custody on charges of fraud and organized crime at the Supreme Cooperative Society in Butwal, since November 13. According to the law, both the party and the opposition can postpone the hearing only twice in the same case. The government has never postponed the hearing in this case.

Even though Lamichhane, who is in custody for trial in the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case, paid his share of the amount, the bench of District Court Rupandehi Judge Narayan Sapkota refused to release him on August 26. Lamichhane had approached the Tulsipur Butwal Bench of the High Court against this.

On October 27, the bench of Justices Basudev Acharya and Om Prasad Aryal had ordered the original file of the main charge sheet to be produced. Even before that, an order was issued to request the original file on October 20. Although the original file was not received from the Supreme Court, the hearing has been scheduled for today based on the copy received from the district court.

Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for October 13 as well, but the hearing was postponed after the application of Chhabilal Joshi's legal practitioner. Earlier, the High Court had ordered that the cases against both the defendants be heard simultaneously since they are of the same nature.

Despite the arson and vandalism at the Tulsipur Butwal bench of the High Court during the Gen-G movement, the court has stated that the case files of both Lamichhane and Joshi are safe.

A charge sheet has been filed against the defendants including Ravi in the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case, setting a collective amount of Rs 109.936 crore. Lamichhane had deposited Rs 27.484 crore, one of the four parts, along with a bank guarantee, equal to his share. Joshi has also submitted a bail of the same amount.

However, the district court had ordered that both of them should not be released as it was not yet clear how much the individual amount of the defendants would be. Currently, both Ravi Lamichhane and Chhabilal Joshi are in jail awaiting trial.
