Nepali Congress leader Sunil Bahadur Thapa, who was working as a political expert to President Ram Chandra Poudel, has resigned. Thapa had been working as a political expert to President Poudel since Chaitra 14, 2079 BS.

Although the letter addressed to the President mentions the date of November 12, he made the letter public only on Tuesday by making it available to journalists.

He mentioned in the letter that he resigned in view of the elections to the House of Representatives and the National Assembly as well as the general convention of the Nepali Congress. ‘I want to ensure my future in mainstream politics,’ he said in the letter.

Thapa, whose ancestral home is Dhankuta, was defeated by UML leader Rajendra Kumar Rai in the 2079 House of Representatives elections.  The Nepali Congress, Dhankuta, has recommended Thapa as a candidate for the National Assembly.
