The Department of Foreign Employment has stated that the fair recruitment of workers going for foreign employment is becoming very challenging. According to the Director General of the department, Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, 50 complaints of fraud are being received daily.

‘Ethical (fair) recruitment has become very challenging for us. It is necessary to intervene,’ Bhattarai said at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Labor.

Even though the government has fixed the service fee of workers at 10,000 rupees, the workers are being forced to pay lakhs. Currently, each worker is paying 300,000 rupees just to go to the Gulf and Malaysia. The government has not been able to intervene in this. The Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association has been demanding that the service fee be equal to one month’s salary of the workers.

‘We are working cashless, faceless and processless. We are also increasing the number of applications. We are providing all services online,’ he said, ‘but ethical recruitment is becoming more challenging.’
