The committee formed to assess the damage caused during the Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 and 24 and prepare a reconstruction plan for public infrastructure has submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
The coordinator of the committee and Secretary of the National Planning Commission, Ravilal Pantha, also presented the summary of the report in the cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar today.
This committee was formed on Asoj 5 under the coordination of the Secretary of the National Planning Commission by the decision of the cabinet. The committee submitted its report in 75 days. According to the committee, damage was caused in all seven provinces during the Gen-G movement. There are 54 districts and 262 local levels that suffered such damage.
According to the report, a total of 77 people have died, including 20 on Bhadra 23, 37 on Bhadra 24 and 20 thereafter. Out of the 2,429 injured, 17 are under the age of 13. The report states that 1,433 people aged 13 to 28 have been injured. The committee has assessed the total physical damage at Rs 84.457.7 billion. Out of which, 2,168 are affected bodies/institutions.
2,671 buildings have been damaged. The damage is estimated at Rs 39.317.7 billion. 12,659 vehicles were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 12.93 billion 61 thousand. The government/public sector suffered a loss of Rs 44.93 billion 73 million.
The private sector suffered a loss of Rs 33.54 billion 87 million. The community and other sectors suffered a loss of Rs 5.97 billion 17 million. Of the three levels of government, the federal government accounted for 68 percent, while the provincial and local levels accounted for 10 and 22 percent, respectively.
The committee has also submitted a reconstruction action plan. It is estimated that a budget of Rs 36.30 billion 21 million will be required for reconstruction.
