The government is preparing to send two elephants from Chitwan National Park, which are said to be a gift to Qatar, by charter flight on December 20.

After staying there for a night, both elephants will be taken to Qatar by charter flight on Poush 2. The Nepal government has given two elephants to Qatar free of charge as a goodwill gesture to keep them at the zoo in Alkhor, Qatar for observation.
According to Haribhadra Acharya, senior ecologist at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, animal assistant Dinesh Dhakal and two handlers (mahouts) will also go with the elephants. Mahouts Budhilal Shrestha and Pachukhan Tharu, who have been taking care of both elephants here to teach them how to behave, will also go with them.
Acharya informed that an agreement has been reached to keep them in the Qatar zoo for at least a month, teaching the mahouts there about elephant behavior, and then return.
This is the first time that an elephant is being kept in the zoo in Alkhor, Qatar. The zoo has been equipped with AC to keep the elephants in an environment similar to the temperature of Chitwan National Park.
The Qatar government has borne all the expenses, including transporting the elephants in two cages built according to the size of the elephants. On Poush 2, the Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Foreign Affairs handed over the elephants to the employees of the Qatar Embassy in Nepal at Bhairahawa Airport and a farewell ceremony has also been scheduled.

Manipuran Chaudhary, chief officer of the Elephant Breeding Center, said that preparations are being made to take the elephants in a truck after conducting a technical inspection of the collapsed road in Daunne.
When Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who visited Nepal on 12 Baisakh 2081, returned, it was announced that Khagendra Prasad and Rudrakali would also be taken with him.
It is customary to name elephant babies born in the park and write Kali or Mala after their names if they are females and Prasad or Gaj if they are males. Chitwan National Park has stated that Rudrakali is the offspring of Pujakali and Khagendra Prasad Koshikali.
