Malaysia has intensified its campaign to arrest undocumented workers, with 843 people arrested in the Selayang Baru region of Malaysia.
The arrests include 808 men and 35 women. Their ages range from 21 to 53, according to Malaysian media. Selangor Chief Minister and State Security Committee Chairman Amiruddin Shari said the arrest campaign was launched after foreign workers were found to be illegally entering the country and operating roadside businesses.
Those arrested include citizens of Nepal, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The committee did not disclose the number of nationalities to be arrested. According to Amiruddin, similar campaigns have been launched against illegal immigrants in various places, including Seri Muda and the Selangor Wholesale Market.
Most of those arrested are accused of not having identity documents, violating visa or pass conditions, overstaying their stay, and using fake or invalid documents, according to Immigration.
