The Election Commission has established the Office of the Returning Officer for the Proportional Electoral System.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari inaugurated the office, informed Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. With the establishment of the office of the Election Officer for the proportional representation, Commission Secretary Mahadev Pantha, who was designated as the Election Officer for the proportional representation as per the Commission's decision on Mangsir 2, has assumed the responsibility.

Joint Secretary of the Commission Yagya Prasad Bhattarai has been designated as the Assistant Election Officer for the said election system. A total of 41 employees will be working for the management of the proportional representation election. There is a provision to elect 110 people through the proportional representation election system in the total 275-member House of Representatives.

Inaugurating the office, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari expressed confidence that all the work of the proportional representation election system will be done through the Office of the Election Officer, which will make it easier for all concerned. He mentioned that representatives will be selected by separating groups according to caste, geography, gender and other factors as per the law through a formulaic method with the support of the National Statistics Office, and that there will be trust from all parties.
