Two people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting an Israeli citizen who was visiting Kathmandu.

A police team deployed from Police Circle Lainchaur, Sohrakhutte arrested them from Thamel, Kathmandu at 7:15 pm on Sunday.

The arrested are Pemba Tamang, 26, a resident of Temal Rural Municipality-6 in Kavrapalanchok, currently living in Swayambhu, Kathmandu, and Shyam Tamang, 30, a resident of Tandi Rural Municipality-4 in Nuwakot, currently living in Swayambhu.

On November 15, around 10 pm, Israeli citizen Almog Armoja was assaulted and beaten while walking on the road in Kaladhara, Kathmandu-16. After the incident became public, there was widespread criticism for the attack on the tourist. Police have stated that an investigation is underway against both the arrested individuals.

After an Israeli citizen who came to Nepal for trekking was beaten, the Jerusalem media wrote a news saying that he was ‘beaten because he was an Israeli citizen’. The victim, Almog Armoza, told the Jerusalem Post, ‘The attackers were listening to me speaking in Hebrew, if their first blow had knocked me unconscious, the outcome could have been different.’ He also said that if he had not been able to escape, he would have survived, he would not have survived.

After the beating, he was first admitted to the People’s Hospital in Nayabazar and later to the Swag Hospital in Maitidevi, and was discharged after treatment.
