Prime Minister's directive to control irregularities in foreign employment business

What you should know

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has instructed subordinate bodies to control irregularities in the foreign employment business.

She gave such instructions during a discussion on labor issues with officials from the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Law and Department of Foreign Employment at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

In this context, she also urged the speedy rescue of female workers stranded in Kuwait.

She said that the government should prioritize the safety of its citizens who go abroad for labor instead of looking at the benefits of foreign employment entrepreneurs and brokers.

She also directed to establish a system so that those who go abroad do not suffer, are cheated and have to be rescued by the government. She said, "Let's not just fatten up manpower (entrepreneurs)." Manpower had to be made aware. It could not be left stranded.

She also drew the attention of government officials to strictly implement the system of only going abroad after receiving language and job orientation and training in the respective country before going for foreign employment.

‘Those who go for foreign employment also have to study . They have to get training . If the state collects taxes, it should also ensure safe immigration,’ she said, ‘Everything cannot be left to the brokers .’

She also gave instructions to control the tendency of taking lakhs with a voucher of 10 thousand rupees . She said, ‘The brokers incite for their own benefit . They bring honest people from the villages . On the other hand, there are big manpower companies . All of them have taken advantage of the honesty of the people . The state itself must work to end this situation.'

The program was attended by Law Minister Anil Kumar Sinha, Communications and Information Technology Minister Jagdish Kharel, Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal, Secretaries of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Rajkumar Shrestha and Govinda Bahadur Karki, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor Krishna Hari Pushkar, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, Secretary of the Ministry of Law Parashwar Dhungana and other government officials.
