Nagdhunga-Naubise road to be closed for 5 hours daily

What you should know

The government is going to partially close the Nagdhunga-Naubise Malekhu road section to move forward the process as the expected progress in road construction has not been made.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had invited all stakeholders a few days ago and expressed its commitment to resolve the problem. Construction entrepreneurs and the related projects had said that road construction could not pick up speed due to the continuous movement of vehicles.

With the aim of speeding up road construction by managing traffic, it has been decided to close the road for 5 hours daily from Wednesday to the upcoming Poush 1. The District Administration Offices, Kathmandu and Dhading have jointly published a notice of the road closure.

The Nagdhunga-Naubise road section of the Tribhuvan Highway is in the process of being blacktopped and upgraded. In the meantime, the Nagdhunga-Piplamode section of the road, which falls within Kathmandu district, has been given high priority for blacktopping. The road section is narrower than elsewhere and requires the mobilization of many heavy equipment and transport vehicles at once. Similarly, the project has stated that the road in the Pokharevhir area should be widened as the Galchhi-Gajuri section of Dhading is also narrow and risky.

According to the notice, road traffic will be closed from Nagdhunga to Piplamod and in the Pokharebhir area from Wednesday to next Poush 1 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. During that time, the notice has urged people to use alternative roads and manage their travel time before or after that time.

During that time, vehicles going from Kathmandu to Naubise will be stopped at the Nagdhunga check post. The notice states that the movement of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, security vehicles, fire engines, and hearses will be facilitated by the traffic police.

Vehicles going from Mugling to Kathmandu will be stopped at Khanikhola (Naubise), Jungekhola (Thacre), Galchhi-Gajuri section at Galchhi, Baireni and Mastar. Small and medium vehicles can use alternative routes in case of emergency. According to the notice, Sitapaila Bhimdhunga, Ramkot Dharke Road, Samakhusi Tokha-Chhahare Road can be used as an alternative.

The notice states that all stopped vehicles will be released only after 3:30 PM.
