Most parts of the country are expected to receive below-average rainfall during the winter season from Mangsir 15 to Falgun 16.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the maximum and minimum temperatures will also remain above average. According to the assessment made public by the department on Wednesday, there is an equal chance of below average, average and above average rainfall in the northern parts of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces and the north-western parts of Gandaki province this winter. Dinkar Kayastha, information officer of the department, said that there is a 55 to 65 percent chance of below average rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of Sudurpaschim province, southern parts of Karnali, western parts of Lumbini, southern parts of Bagmati, northern parts of Madhes and central and eastern parts of Koshi province.

The central regions of Sudurpaschim and Karnali Provinces, the central and eastern regions of Lumbini, the eastern regions of Gandaki, the central and northern regions of Bagmati, the southern regions of Madhes and some regions of Koshi Provinces are likely to receive less than average rainfall by 45 to 55 percent, while the rest of the country is likely to receive less than average rainfall by 35 to 45 percent.

Maximum temperature assessment

Similarly, the maximum temperature is expected to be above average in most parts of the country. According to the department, the maximum temperature is likely to be above average in the northern and southern regions of Gandaki Provinces, the southern regions of Bagmati and the northern and southwestern regions of Koshi.

Similarly, the northern regions of Karnali Provinces, the northern regions of Lumbini and the remaining regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces are likely to receive more than average temperatures by 44 to 55.

The probability of the maximum temperature being above average in the Far West, the southwestern part of Karnali Province and the western part of Lumbini Province is 35 to 45 percent.

It is stated that there is an equal probability of the maximum temperature being below average, average and above average in the southern part of Lumbini Province and the Madhes Province. 

Minimum temperature assessment

Similarly, the department has stated that the minimum temperature is likely to be above average across the country. The probability of the minimum temperature being above average in the northern and southwestern parts of Sudurpaschim Province, the central and northern parts of Karnali Province, most parts of Lumbini Province, the northeastern and southwestern parts of Bagmati Province, most parts of Madhes Province and the southern and northwestern parts of Koshi Province is 55 to 65 percent. Similarly, it is stated that the probability of the temperature being above average in the rest of the country is 35 to 55 percent.
