International Day of Persons with Disabilities today

The 34th International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being celebrated today with various programs. The government, stakeholders, and various organizations active in this field have organized various programs on the occasion of the day.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been celebrated every year on December 3rd since 1992, at the initiative of the United Nations, to promote the rights of citizens with disabilities.

This year, the theme of this day has been set as ‘Promoting a Disability Inclusive Society: Enhancing Social Progress’. This day, which is celebrated worldwide on December 3rd every year, has reminded us of the common resolve to ensure the rights, equality, inclusion and respect of persons with disabilities.

There is an imperative need to provide necessary facilities to persons with disabilities by preparing friendly physical structures and other necessary environments according to their needs in offices, schools, public transport, roads, parks, monasteries and temples, government and public and private structures, etc.

Although the Constitution of Nepal ensures the right of citizens with disabilities to live with dignity and self-respect, recognizing their diversity, and to have equal access to public services and facilities, there has been a demand for its full implementation in practice.
