A bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Shrikant Poudel ruled to issue a writ petition filed by Land Commission Chairman Hari Prasad Rijal. The government had decided to abolish the Land Commission and its district structure. Chairman Rijal had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Kartik 23 against the decision. The Supreme Court initially issued a short-term interim order in the writ petition and then issued an interim order.
The Council of Ministers had decided to abolish the Land Problem Resolution Commission and its district committee on Asoj 23. The ‘Land Problem Resolution Commission’, which was last formed on Kartik 13, 2081, had moved forward with the work at a rapid pace, calling it ‘the last opportunity for land registration and land acquisition in the names of landless Dalits, landless squatters and unorganized settlers across the country.’
