All media outlets under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology have been affiliated with the Social Security Fund. In the first phase, government media outlets have been affiliated with the Social Security Fund on the occasion of the 8th Social Security Day.

In accordance with the legal provisions that require formal associations and organizations to be affiliated with the Social Security Fund, the government media has been formally affiliated with the Social Security Fund.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on the occasion of the eighth establishment day of the fund held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar today. 

In the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, the Executive Director of the Social Security Fund, Kabiraj Adhikari, and officials of the concerned bodies signed the MoU. The Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Gorkhapatra Sansthan, Public Broadcasting Service Nepal (PSB), Press Council Nepal, Minimum Wage Determination Committee, and Minimum Wage Determination Committee have been affiliated with the Social Security Fund.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said that despite the law to be affiliated with the Social Security Fund, government media that have not been affiliated with the Social Security Fund due to various reasons have been affiliated with the Social Security Fund. Talking to journalists at the Ministry of Communications today, Minister Kharel mentioned that along with the affiliation of government media to social security, the affiliation of media corporations has also begun. He also said that all the bodies under the ministry will be affiliated with the Social Security Fund.

Minister of Communications Kharel said, 'All government media under the ministry have been affiliated with the Social Security Fund. A memorandum of understanding was signed between these bodies today, with this, the work of journalists and employees affiliated with government media has now begun to come under the scope of social security. This is the beginning, further work will continue after this. We will continue to implement this in other bodies under the ministry as well.'

Minister of Communications Kharel clarified that all private and community media registered and operating in Nepal will also be gradually affiliated with the Social Security Fund. He also called on all concerned to be affiliated with the scope of social security. 'The concerned bodies that signed the agreement have prepared an action plan. The relevant bodies will decide in accordance with the legal provisions without repeating the details.'

Government media outlets have signed an agreement to join the Social Security Fund and committed to making the necessary action plan and implementing it. According to the fund, 2.65 million citizens have been covered under the umbrella of contribution-based social security as of Wednesday. The fund is operating a drug treatment, health and maternity, accident disability, dependent family security and old age security scheme for workers. The fund has stated that workers and their families have been receiving various facilities and concessions from the mentioned scheme.

So far, Rs 95.68 billion has been collected in the fund based on contributions. Two lakh 53 thousand 143 workers have received claims of Rs 17.72 billion for various facilities from the fund. The fund has been providing contributors with benefits including interest on savings in addition to health facilities, monthly pension after a certain period, house loans, educational loans and other concessions.
