Police have arrested and made public five people who set fire to and vandalized the Supreme Court during the protest on Bhadra 10.
The arrested are Raju Pariyar, Kumar Parajuli, Sushil Shrestha and Jyoti Thapa Ghatani, said District Police Complex spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai at a press conference held here on Monday. The police have not revealed the identity of one of them.
Informing that some others who set fire to the court have been identified, he said that they will also be brought to justice soon. The Supreme Court had filed a complaint with the complex to investigate and take action against those who set fire to the court.
104 complaints related to arson, vandalism and criminal harassment have been filed in the complex during the Gen-G movement. Of these, 22 are individuals, 66 are government offices and 16 are institutional/commercial establishments, according to the complex.
Police data shows that 49 people died in Kathmandu alone during the movement. Seven of them are still unidentified. Police have said that the identities of seven people who went missing during that time have been found.
'Seven skeletons were found in Bhatbhateni, Chuchchepati, which has led to suspicions that the DNA sample could not be obtained as the bodies were completely burnt,' he said, 'We are considering whether to send them to other places for identification, but there is no basis to confirm it until the bodies are identified.'
Meanwhile, 154 cases have been registered for various crimes, 267 people have been arrested, 87 have been released on bail, 113 are in custody, 33 have been released on bail and 43 have been remanded in custody for trial.
