837,000 new voters added

Eight hundred and thirty-seven thousand ninety-four new voters have been added since the announcement of the election for members of the House of Representatives.

The details of new voters who registered their names have been made public after the extended period for registration and updating of the voter list conducted by the Election Commission expired at midnight last night.

344,914 new voters were added through biometrics including photo and fingerprints and 492,180 through national identity cards, informed the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

The number of people registering their names online has further increased after the Commission made it possible to register their names in the voter list based on the details of the national identity card.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has also mentioned on social media that the collection of voter lists, including the number of new voters, has been completed. As of last Kartik 16, the number of voters who have completed the age of 18 was 18,168,023.

Earlier, the time for registration of the voter list was given until last Kartik 30, but the Commission had extended the time until Mangsir 5 based on the pressure of new voter registration and the request of the concerned parties.
