The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a case against six people, including the then acting office chief of the Health Office Bajura, Ashok Kumar Singh, in the Special Court, Kathmandu.
The Commission's spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel informed that a case has been filed against the then engineer Sunesh Kumar Chaurasia, sub-engineer Naresh Rawat of the Education Development and Coordination Unit Bajura, and the chairman of the Maternity Center Building Construction Consumers Committee Paras Rokaya, secretary Muna Rokaya, and treasurer Khadak Aidi on charges of corruption by causing damage to public property.
The Health Office Bajura had given the responsibility to the Consumers Committee for the construction of a maternity center in Himali Rural Municipality-6 at a cost of Rs 2,615,020. However, the Commission's investigation revealed that the building was constructed in a condition that could not be used, contrary to the construction cost estimate and standards, and payment was taken based on fake bills and reports.
The constructed structure is currently unused and has turned into ruins, and this has resulted in embezzlement, loss, damage, and misuse of public property, the Commission stated.
The Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 1,58,557 on each of the defendants.
