What you should know

The UML is set to move the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives by President Ram Chandra Poudel on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The UML has decided to move the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives.

The UML has decided to go to the Supreme Court from the parliamentary party meeting of the dissolved House of Representatives on Tuesday. Mahesh Bartaula, who is the UML chief whip in the dissolved House of Representatives, informed that the decision has been made to go to the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the unconstitutionally dissolved House of Representatives. 'We are going to go to the Supreme Court.' It has been decided to seek constitutional redress,' Bartaula said.

At the party headquarters in Chyasal, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had said that the party would go to court for legal redress, demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives. 'We will move forward by taking both steps. One is to reject it and seek legal redress. We believe that justice should be given in this court, in the eyes of the constitution and its constitutionality, and these steps should be subject to a constitutional review,' Oli said. 'There is no other way for any other review to come to a decision. There is no other constitutional way for the respected court to make another decision other than restoration.'

Oli said that the dissolution of the House of Representatives, which was done when he was the Prime Minister for two-thirds of the time, was overturned by the Supreme Court in the past, and that the dissolution done by the current government cannot be right. 'I have also overturned the constitution many times. I have looked at the constitution many times. This is completely unconstitutional. It cannot claim that it is in accordance with the constitution, it cannot present any argument,' Oli said, 'It cannot say that it is constitutional, democratic, or in favor of democracy. One thing it says is that it calls chaos, arson, vandalism, and looting a revolution.'

Oli had said that the dissolution done by the Prime Minister, which is not recognized by the constitution, will not be in accordance with the constitution under any circumstances.

17 writ petitions against the dissolution of the House of Representatives are already pending in the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court. UML is the first party to decide to go to the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister Karki recommended the dissolution of the House of Representatives on Bhadra 27. On the same day, President Poudel dissolved the House of Representatives and announced elections for Falgun 21.
