The Electronic Driving License (EDL) service, which was closed, has been operational since Saturday morning.

The service, which had been partially operational since Kartik 16, was shut down for the day on Friday after a problem occurred in the data center of the Department of Transport Management. Similarly, the website applydlnew.dotm.gov.np prepared by the department to allow applications for licenses has also been operational.

The problem was due to lack of power supply and the service started from Saturday morning as a new power supply was installed on Friday evening, said Keshav Khatiwada, director of the department. ‘Now the system will not shut down even when the line is down,’ he said, ‘There was a generator, but the problem arose because it was not able to sustain the line for a long time.’

He said that now the system will run on batteries and generators when the line is down. According to him, this service is currently operating from only 38 of the 42 Transport Management Offices across the country. However, the service has not started from Chaurjahari, Surkhet, Pokhara and Hetauda in Rukum. Director Khatiwada said that it will take some time for the service to be operational from these offices.
