The hearing on the petition filed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane seeking to be released from the cooperative fraud case by paying the amount of his demand has concluded. The hearing was held in the bench of Chief Justice Basudev Acharya and Justice Om Prasad Aryal of the Tulsipur, Butwal bench of the High Court.

On Thursday, advocates Narayan Dutt Kandel, Mahendra Pandey and Dipendra Jha argued on behalf of Lamichhane. Similarly, Sandesh Shrestha, Associate Attorney of the High Government Attorney's Office, Butwal, and Deputy Attorney Prakash Marasini argued on behalf of the Government Attorney's Office. It is said that the order may come today as the judges are writing the verdict.

Lamichhane, who is in custody for trial in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case of Butwal, had filed a petition in the Rupandehi District Court seeking his release after paying the amount of his share of the embezzlement in the cooperative. The bench of District Court Judge Narayan Sapkota had rejected his release while hearing his petition on July 26. After Rupandehi did not release him, he filed a petition in the Butwal Bench of the High Court, Tulsipur on August 9.

A charge sheet has been filed against Lamichhane and the defendants in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal, setting a collective loss of Rs 109.936 crore. However, Lamichhane had submitted a document stating that he had paid one part of the loss out of four parts. Lamichhane had submitted a bank guarantee of Rs 27.484 crore with the application.

Like Lamichhane, Chhabilal Joshi had also submitted a bail for the same amount. However, since it was not clear how much loss would be fixed for both defendants, a similar order was made that they should not be released.

Both Lamichhane and Joshi are in jail for pre-trial detention. Lamichhane, who is in Bhairahawa prison, has been transferred to Nakhkhu prison in Lalitpur, while Joshi is in Bhairahawa prison.
