The Speaker of the House of Representatives has beaten and assaulted lawmakers from seven parties who had reached the Deputy Speaker's office to submit a no-confidence motion against Madhesh Province Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal.

The controversy erupted after Deputy Speaker Babita Raut sent the impeachment letter against the Speaker for registration.

Speaker Mandal, who suddenly arrived at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat while the employees were in the process of registering the impeachment letter, beat up LSP MP Upendra Mahato and Janmat parliamentary party leader Mahesh Yadav. Janmat MP Chandan Singh said that Speaker Mandal also assaulted and misbehaved with other MPs from 7 parties present there.

The MPs were in the Deputy Speaker's office. They have just been rescued by the police. In a telephone conversation with Kantipur, MP Singh said that Speaker Mandal had forced around 50 people to enter the Provincial Assembly through the back door and attack them. The situation in the Provincial Assembly Secretariat is still tense.
