Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has expressed his commitment to fulfill the government's responsibility to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming elections while maintaining good governance in the country.

Speaking at Singha Durbar after donning the rank insignia of the Inspector General of Police on Thursday, he said that his main goal is to successfully conduct the upcoming elections.

IGP Karki said that he is aware and vigilant about the responsibility he has received in extraordinary circumstances. He has committed to demonstrating strong leadership and collectivity in the organization by effectively coordinating and collaborating with the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agencies, NGOs and the community.

He said, "I am aware and vigilant that this responsibility is extraordinary in the context of the responsibility of the Government of Nepal to maintain good governance in the country and conduct elections, and the police structure and morale that are facing security challenges of various dimensions. I express my commitment to perform this responsibility in extraordinary circumstances by effectively coordinating and collaborating with the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agencies, NGOs and other communities, demonstrating strong leadership and collectivity in the organization, increasing the morale of police personnel and performing work in accordance with the wishes of the Government of Nepal and the general public."

He said that he will keep the morale of the Nepal Police high and perform work in accordance with good governance and public expectations. He said, 'On the one hand, the restoration of the police structure and physical infrastructure and the need to ensure the necessary weapons, vehicles and resources in view of the upcoming elections, while on the other hand, it is equally important to raise and maintain the morale of the police.'

He informed that the problems of drug abuse, suicide and road accidents are currently increasing alarmingly in the country. He pointed out the need to make the police organization physically strong and highly moraleful to solve these challenges.

He said that it is the common responsibility of the police organization to provide effective service through the development of highly moraleful police character and capacity in line with the rapid development of information technology, changes in crime trends and the expectations of the people for good governance.

He said, 'The Nepal Police must be made physically strong and highly moraleful. On the one hand, the restoration of the physical infrastructure and the need to ensure the necessary arrangements including weapons, vehicles and other things in view of the upcoming elections, while on the other hand, there is an equally urgent need to maintain and increase the morale of the police. It is our common need and responsibility to provide effective service by building a highly morale police character and capacity in line with the changing trends in crime and security challenges, the rapid development in information technology, and public expectations for good governance.'

He also said that the government should make arrangements for the police as they are lacking in nutrition. At a program organized at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Home Secretary Rameshwor Dangal presented Karki with the rank of Inspector General of Police.

After IGP Chandrakuber Khapung went on compulsory retirement from 12 midnight on November 26 due to the 30-year service period mentioned in the police regulations, the command of Nepal Police came under Karki. Before Khapung retired, the Cabinet meeting on November 25 had decided to appoint Karki as the highest post of IGP of Nepal Police.
