The loss of life and property during the monsoon this year has been reduced compared to last year. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, there have been 1,454 incidents this year compared to 2,139 incidents in 2081. According to the authority, 140 people have died this year compared to 495 deaths last year due to disasters.

Last year, 10,823 households were affected by disasters, while 5,995 households have been affected this year. Last year, 66 people went missing due to disasters, while 30 people went missing this year. Last year, 522 people were injured in disasters, while 300 were injured this year, according to the NEA.

According to the NEA, this year there were 292 floods, 513 landslides, 397 heavy rains, and 252 lightning strikes. 3,200 households were directly affected by floods, with 37 people killed, 26 missing, and 14 injured. Similarly, 67 people died, four missing, and 77 injured in landslides, while 1,518 households were affected.

Heavy rains killed seven people, injured 20, and affected 966 households. According to the NEA, 311 households were affected by lightning, with 29 people killed and 189 injured.

This year, the monsoon lasted longer than average. The monsoon, which entered Nepal a few days earlier than average, i.e. on 2082 Jestha 15, stayed for 135 days and left on Asoj 24.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, 1,375.4 millimeters of rainfall has been received during the monsoon period. Which is 97.23 percent compared to the average of 1,415.5 millimeters of rainfall. Despite the higher than average rainfall, human and material damage was less than last year. Towards the end of the monsoon, i.e. from Asoj 17 to 20, 53 people died. Ilam was the most affected in terms of human damage during the monsoon. 39 people died in Ilam alone.

The government has declared Ilam a disaster-prone area for three months. 18 people went missing due to the flood in Bhotekoshi in Rasuwa on Asaj 24, and 11 bodies and human organs were found. The flood washed away the Miteri bridge at the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint. The dry port and three hydroelectric power plants suffered billions in damage. 76 vehicles, including cargo, were swept away. Madhesh Province was affected by drought problems at the beginning of the monsoon. The government had declared Madhesh Province a drought-affected area for three months on Sian 8.

The government has estimated that the damage was reduced due to the integrated mobilization of all agencies by passing the Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan, 2082. A command center was established under the leadership of the NEA's Executive Chief and coordination and instructions were issued with the relevant stakeholders for 38 hours continuously.
