The looting, vandalism, and arson that took place at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on 24 Bhadra, the day after the Gen-G movement, caused material damage worth over 245 million rupees.
According to the complaint filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) with the police, the buildings, vehicles, computers/laptops, furniture, solar panels and other structures of the central office in Tangal have been damaged by vandalism/arson and looting amounting to Rs 245 million. According to the spokesperson of the CIAA, Rajendra Kumar Poudel, the damage was assessed by technicians from the relevant field. The CIAA has investigated those involved in the vandalism, arson and looting and has filed a complaint with the District Police Complex, Kathmandu on 18 Bhadra, demanding action against those involved.
The group that entered the CIAA premises around 4 pm on 24 Bhadra initially focused on looting. According to the CCTV footage that was not damaged that day, they entered and looted laptops, computers and other equipment and devices and then vandalized and set fire to them. The group, which was seen at the CIAA for about 3 hours, left after 76 pm.
According to the police report filed by the Authority, the total damage to the building on that day was Rs 11 million due to arson in the parking infrastructure on the south side, Rs 3 million due to arson in the building's windows/doors, glass/tables, Rs 1.5 million due to arson in the building's doors, locks, lock sets and machines, Rs 1 million due to arson in the administration division of the Authority, drawers, photocopy machines, etc., and Rs 4.5 million due to vandalism/arson in the solar panel, making the total damage to the building Rs 11 million. Similarly, on the Sabari side, 90 Sabari vehicles, including 32 four-wheelers and 58 two-wheelers (motorcycles/scooters), were vandalized and arsoned, amounting to Rs 203.33 million.
Of which, two buses, five cars/jeeps, 25 pickups, jeeps/cars and the remaining motorcycles were damaged due to arson and vandalism. Similarly, the details mention that 20 million 61 lakh 86 thousand 201 rupees were lost due to theft, looting and vandalism/arson.
According to the authority, 20 computers have been broken. 10 printers, 6 laptops, 10 computers have been looted. 10 electronic devices have been partially damaged and 13 have been completely damaged. 21 buildings, including the central office, have been partially damaged and one building has been completely damaged. 16 four-wheelers and 57 two-wheelers in the office premises in Tangal have been completely damaged and 16 four-wheelers and one two-wheeler have been partially damaged.
4 vehicles and 6 motorcycles in the Itahari office of the authority have been completely damaged and one vehicle and 2 motorcycles have been partially damaged. 4 vehicles and 8 motorcycles in Hetauda, 2 vehicles and 6 motorcycles in Pokhara have been damaged. Three vehicles of the CIAA's Butwal office have been burned. One vehicle and two motorcycles have been vandalized in Butwal. Four motorcycles have been vandalized in the Kanchanpur office.
According to spokesperson Poudel, a police report has been filed from here regarding the damage in Tangal, and in the case of other offices, the concerned office has been asked to assess the damage and file a complaint with the nearest police office.
