Prime Minister Sushila Karki held discussions with local government representatives on Monday.
Prime Minister Karki held discussions with the officials of the National Federation of Rural Municipalities and the National Federation of Municipalities in Baluwatar this afternoon.
He discussed and consulted on the work being done by the local government in the recent situation, the problems faced, and the preparations for the election.
There was consensus among all those present on the issue of moving forward with a spirit of cooperation, coordination, and coexistence between the federal, provincial, and local governments. They were of the opinion that cooperation should also be done to maintain good governance and peace and order in the country to create an environment for the upcoming elections.
Local level people's representatives appreciated the role being played by the Prime Minister Karki-led government in creating an environment for the elections and expressed happiness over the work it has done to raise hope.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and Law Minister Anil Kumar Sinha were also present on behalf of the government in the discussion.
Home Minister Aryal requested the local government to provide support for peace and order in this unusual situation. He requested the local government to provide information about the search for some weapons and about 5,000 prisoners, as the government is searching for them.
Local people's representatives also drew the Prime Minister's attention to the fact that they could not hire contract employees due to the recent guidelines issued by the government to maintain austerity and that the plans that had already been contracted were uncertain.
They also urged the Prime Minister to hold a meeting of the mechanisms formed to coordinate between the three levels of government and activate them.
Prime Minister Karki said that the government would move forward with the support and coordination of the local government.
Since the local government will have a greater role in holding the elections, she said that the government would move forward through coordination and cooperation.
She said, "The role of the local level is important in elections. We cannot do without coordination and cooperation with you to create an environment for the election and prepare. We will address your concerns. We must do it. Don't worry. Move forward with confidence in your work. Now, we all need to find a way out of this situation together."
She also clarified that it is impossible to move forward by excluding parties in the party system.
"In the party system, there are parties. Parties are indispensable. There are issues of parties at the top. There are issues of development at the local level at the bottom. We need to strike a balance between these things,' she said, 'We should not stop doing our work. We should continue to improve. No one had imagined that there would be 2 elections in 5 years. This happened suddenly. We should accept this reality and move forward. The country is ours. We should improve it ourselves.'
Prime Minister Karki informed that she had suggested Gen-G to form a party and contest the elections.
She said, 'Gen-G's children are also ours. The old ones took over more. They did it arbitrarily. That gave rise to rebellion. Now it is not enough to be angry with the party. I have told Gen-G to form a party too. We should move forward in the direction of going to the elections with our own agendas and implementing our reform programs peacefully.'
She was of the opinion that culture and discipline are also essential in politics.
Various officials, including Laxmi Devi Pandey, President of the National Federation of Rural Municipalities, and Bhim Prasad Dhungana, President of the National Federation of Municipalities, were present in the discussion.
