Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has said that the printing of driving licenses has begun after dust has cleared from the Security Printing Center. On Friday, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel officially launched the printing by pressing the button of the printing press at the Security Printing Center in Shrikhandapur, Kavre.

Addressing the inaugural program, Minister Kharel said, "Printing has been started by shaking off the dust from the machines and equipment that have been lying in a dusty state for years," he said, "About 3 billion rupees have been invested in the Security Printing Center, which is spread over an area of 235 ropanis. For years, the machines of the Security Printing Center were in a state like they had been thrown away, and the parts were covered in dust. We have started printing by shaking off the dust."

According to him, the work of printing licenses has now started. He said that after the center's machines come into operation, many other things including national identity cards, passports, red documents, various stickers, postage stamps, etc. can be done. He said that this will reduce dependence on foreigners for printing.

"The printing of licenses, passports, national identity cards, etc. has always been outsourced to foreign companies and money has been going out of pocket. And the issue of security was also raised,' he said, 'Minister of Communications Kharel said, 'In a situation where the printing work could not be done despite the infrastructure and resources, the printing of licenses has been started by overcoming policy problems, legal issues, budget and lack of manpower.'

According to him, there were cases in the court and complaints in the authority regarding secure printing. By overcoming the difficulties and legal difficulties of the center, the printing of licenses has been started by bringing regulations and ensuring resources and manpower management. Now, he expressed his commitment that various other printing works will also be printed from the center and this will be continued.

The security printing center has been a controversial issue for various times and now he has directed that the work done from here should be done without controversy and transparently. He said that he is trying to ensure good governance to the people.

According to Narahari Tiwari, Acting Director General of the Department of Transport Management, in the program, there is a demand for printing 2.8 million driving licenses from across the country.  He said that the department will provide the necessary data to the Security Printing Center for printing licenses.  According to Devraj Dhungana, Executive Director of the Security Printing Department, about 500 copies of licenses will be printed daily in the first phase.

He said that the target is to print 1.2 million driving licenses in the first phase. He informed that driving licenses will be issued to the general public within 6 months. For this, the Department of Transport Management will provide about Rs 270 million to the Security Printing Center.
