President Ram Chandra Poudel has left for Qatar. Leading a Nepali delegation, President Poudel left for Qatar this morning to participate in the 'Second World Summit for Social Development' to be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, from November 1 to 2.
President Poudel has gone to Qatar at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. .
Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Qatar's Ambassador to Nepal, high-ranking government officials and heads of security agencies had arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport to bid farewell to President Poudel. Similarly, a contingent of the Nepali Army had offered a salute in honor of President Poudel at the farewell ceremony.
President Poudel is scheduled to address the main session of the 'Second World Summit for Social Development' to be held in Doha, Qatar on Kartik 18, as per the decision of the United Nations General Assembly. In addition, President Poudel will meet with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, among others, on the occasion of the conference.
Earlier, the conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1995. The conference is expected to discuss issues such as the inequality of development faced by the world today, the imbalance in population, and the impact of technology on society.
