Mahesh Kumar Shrestha-led working committee passes resolution for NRNA unity

The working committee led by Mahesh Kumar Shrestha has passed a roadmap (proposal) for the unity of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

The OB meeting held on Sunday night passed a 9-point proposal to be submitted for consensus with Dr. Badri KC's side.

In the meeting chaired by Shrestha, General Secretary Baburam (BR) Lama had submitted the consensus proposal. The meeting has given the responsibility of implementing the essence of the 9-point consensus to Chairman Shrestha.

The draft consensus mentions strengthening the association as an independent, autonomous, non-political, social and charitable organization in accordance with its core essence.

Shrestha has expressed his commitment in the meeting to resolve past disputes within the association through mutual dialogue, cooperation and consensus with the group led by Dr. Badri KC and to prioritize transparency, credibility and institutional stability.

'NRNA is not an organization of any individual or group, it is a common home of Nepalis around the world, which we can strengthen only with the cooperation of all of us,' said Shrestha.

Spokesperson Gangadhar Gautam said that the draft prepared under the leadership of Chairman Shrestha contains a clear plan to conduct the upcoming 12th General Convention in a fair, transparent and credible manner. 

He informed that for this, a steering committee will be formed under the leadership of Chairman Shrestha and MIS  Management Committee and Dispute Resolution Committees will also be formed. 

The working committee led by Shrestha was elected from the convention held by a high-level committee formed by the mandate of the Supreme Court. The point that all parties will withdraw the cases filed in the court on issues including the legitimacy of NRN has also been included in the consensus proposal. 

Spokesperson Gautam informed that since the proposal was passed by the working committee, now the strength of unity is in the court of the KC side. 

Proposed main points of the consensus.

In accordance with the order of the Honorable Supreme Court dated 2080 Chaitra 21 (April 3, 2024) Writ No. 079-wo-1507, the Working Committee unanimously elected under the leadership of Mahesh Kumar Shrestha from the General Convention organized on May 3-4, 2025 by the High-Level Committee formed under the coordination of the former President of the Association, Dr. Shesh Ghale, and the President Mahesh Kumar Shrestha and the office bearers will be installed in the central office of the Association.

The twelfth General Convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association will be held within 6 months from the date of signing the Memorandum of Understanding. A steering committee will be formed to conduct the twelfth General Convention in a transparent and credible manner and to operate the office regularly. The said committee will form the Election Committee, Election Monitoring Committee, Membership and Representative Management Committee and Judicial Committee as provided in the statute and working procedures.
