Chitwan police arrest motorcyclist with silencer on

Chitwan police have started arresting those who are making loud noises on their motorbikes that sound like gunshots. Police have launched an ‘ambushing and trapping’ operation to catch those who damage their silencer pipes and make such noises. The caught motorcyclists have come to their parents to pay the fine and repair the damage.

Recently, police have received widespread complaints that people riding motorcycles with silencers blowing at night in Chitwan have increased noise in the society and made it difficult to sleep. Therefore, a campaign to seize such motorcycles has been launched from Kartik 7, the day after Tihar's Bhai Tika, informed DSP Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson of the Chitwan District Police Office.

He said that 40 motorcycles have been seized within a week. Khanal said that the campaign to seize motorcycles with defects such as spoiling the appearance of the motorcycles and making loud noises by placing tea glasses in the silencers is ongoing. "Some have spoiled them themselves to make noise, while others have gone to workshops to spoil them," DSP Khanal said.

He said that the police are also keeping such motorcycle garages and workshops under surveillance. DSP Khanal said that a terror-like atmosphere has been created in the society due to the fact that young people in the 20/25 years of age are addicted to spoiling the appearance of motorcycles and making loud noises. Parents have to come with them to return the seized motorcycles.

Chitwan police arrest motorcyclist with silencer on ‘When a motorcycle with a damaged appearance is handed over, not only does it have to be repaired, but it also incurs a fine. The fine is Rs 14,000. And we also take a commitment from the guardians to not do this from now on,’ said DSP Khanal. He said that expensive and high-capacity motorcycles are used to be driven with such damaged appearance. Only a few of the motorcycles that were seized have been returned.

Khanal said that only four motorcycles were returned out of the seized ones. He said that the details of the motorcycle owners and potential workshops have been prepared and a record has been kept at the police office. Some motorcycle owners claim that their motorcycles make a loud noise because they have a high capacity. That is why the police say that they have hired an experienced technician to conduct the operation.

‘Was the appearance damaged or not? Was the silencer damaged to make a loud noise or not? That will be known. But some insist, saying that it came from the company. We also keep an expert technician with us to determine this in the field,’ said SP Govinda Puri of Chitwan District Police Office. He said that all 75 police units in the district have been instructed to seize such motorcycles.
