A meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Nepal Institute of Policy Studies on Sunday discussed the issue of granting voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad.
The meeting, attended by Om Prakash Aryal, Home Secretary Rameshwor Dangal, Joint Secretary of the Law Division under the Ministry, and the Executive Chairman Prof. Dr. Lekhnath Sharma, Dr. Deepak Khadka, and a team from the Foundation, discussed the possibility of voting from abroad, the voter list, the voting process, and the necessary mechanisms, laws, and other requirements to make it possible.
A source related to the Home Ministry said that the Foundation was invited for a preliminary discussion on the existing legal situation regarding the voting of citizens abroad, the implementation experience of other countries, and the challenges.
The progress of the research conducted by the Foundation on out-of-country voting and the methods that could be used were presented in the meeting. The voting process abroad, possible security challenges, necessary manpower, and the political environment that should be created for its implementation, etc. were also discussed.
