Singer and musician Babul (Dhan Bahadur) Giri has been arrested on charges of abetting suicide. According to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, SP and spokesperson of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Giri was arrested on Friday.
Singer Giri was arrested after singer Neetu Poudel, who attempted self-immolation at a studio in Anamnagar, died during treatment on Friday morning. Poudel was undergoing treatment at the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur.
Singer Poudel was rescued by police last Saturday while she was setting herself on fire and taken to the Kirtipur Burn Hospital. Giri also suffered minor injuries in the incident.
According to the police, Giri and Poudel had been in a relationship for about 9 years.
