Brothers put on a brotherly tie to each other

Tihar is the festival of brothers and sisters. On this festival, sisters apply tika to their brothers and wish them long life. But Madan and Suman Timilsina, brothers from Byas Municipality-10, Tanahun, have applied tika to each other. Today, they applied tika to each other on an auspicious occasion.

At first, brother Madan showered brother Suman with water and oil. As per the procedure of Bhai Tika, he applied seven-color tika on his forehead and put a garland of flowers around his neck. He broke the nut, praying for the destruction of his brother's enemies and long life. Then brother Suman applied Bhai Tika to brother Madan.

Madan and Suman have been celebrating Bhai Tika by applying tika to each other in this way for eight years. Brother Madan, who has been celebrating Bhai Tika in this way for eight years since he did not have a sister, said.

He said, 'In the past, we used to apply tika from the hands of our relatives and sisters. After his own brother went abroad, he stopped coming to apply tika to us. We were waiting to apply tika. When he did not come, we felt sad. Then we brothers decided to start doing Bhai Tika ourselves. Since then, we have been continuously celebrating Bhai Tika by applying Tika to each other.'

At first, many people thought it was strange when Madan and Suman applied Bhai Tika. There was no social norm for brothers to apply Bhai Tika. On the main day of Tihar, Bhai Tika, sisters celebrate by applying Saptarangi Tika on their foreheads and garlanding their brothers with velvet and hundred-leaf garlands, wishing them long life.
