On October 7, 2023, Hamas took Bipin hostage from Alumim Kivuz, a southern Israeli region bordering the Gaza Strip. A month later, the Israeli army found a video of Bipin alive.

Hamas handed over Bipin's body last Monday after an agreement was reached to release hostages and Palestinian prisoners as part of the first phase of the Middle East peace plan proposed by the US to end the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The National Center of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv has confirmed that the body is that of Bipin through DNA testing.

According to a letter received by the family, it is claimed that Bipin died of a gunshot wound to the head. However, there has not yet been independent confirmation of when, where and under what circumstances he died. Israel and Hamas have accused each other. Hamas claims that Bipin died in an Israeli airstrike, while Israel claims that Bipin was killed by Hamas.

Hamas had taken 251 hostages, of which Israel has recovered the bodies of 33 hostages.
