The Election Commission has urged political parties to conduct the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21 as an environmentally friendly, or green, election.
The Commission has requested support and suggestions from political parties, saying that conducting a green election without pamphlets, pump plates and pollution in modern times would be timely.
It was also proposed in a discussion with political parties held at the Commission on Asoj 30. Joint Secretary of the Commission, Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, said that an election conducted through digital, sustainable and pollution-free means, using minimal materials such as paper, plastic, fuel that do not biodegrade or harm the environment, should be understood as a 'green election'.
During the discussion, representatives of political parties said that they would participate in the election if the appropriate environment was created and that they were positive about making the election environmentally friendly.
The Commission had also taken the initiative in the 2079 BS election for an environmentally friendly election.
