The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, who died while being held hostage by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, have returned home. They arrived home on Thursday after traveling to the United States to lobby for Bipin's release.
Bipin Joshi's death was confirmed on Monday while he was being held hostage by Hamas. His mother Padma and sister Pushpa had reached the US at the initiative of Israel to demand his release. They met with the UN Secretary-General and other officials in the US.
While his mother and sister were in the US, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas had begun and the prisoners were being released. 'We have received news that the process of sending the body will move forward after my aunt and sister reach home,' said Bipin's brother Kishore. 'We have not received much information about when the body will reach.'
Before going to the US, his mother Padma and sister Pushpa had also visited Israel. They reached Israel in the last week of Shrawan and participated in a rally organized for Bipin's release. They also met with the President and Prime Minister in Israel.
Two years ago, Bipin, a student studying in the Faculty of Agriculture of Sudurpaschim University, had reached Israel under the Earn and Learn program. Less than a month after the students reached Israel, they were attacked by Hamas. Ten students were killed in the Hamas attack, and Bipin was kidnapped.
Two years after the Hamas kidnapping, the news of Bipin's death has come. Hamas handed over Bipin's body to Israel and DNA tests have confirmed it.
