What you should know

In Sri Lanka's court premises, the accused of murdering Nike Sanjeeva Kumara Samararatne (Ganemulla Sanjeeva) of the underground gang (underworld) has been found hiding in Nepal. After the arrest of 6 accused in the murder of Ganemulla in Kathmandu in a special operation conducted in coordination with the Nepal Police, it was revealed that they were living in shelters in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur.

According to top police sources, those arrested are Isara Seubandi (26), Jeevathasan Kanakarasa (33), Thaksi Nanthakumar (23), Dinesh Shyamantha de Silva (49), Kennedy Bastimpillai (35) and Dinesh Nisantha Kumara Vikram Achircchage (43) who live in Minuvangoda, Sri Lanka. Among them, Isara Seubandi is the main accused in the Sanjiwa murder case which took place in the magistrate's court of Hulfsdorp court complex in Colombo on 7 February 2080.

A red notice was also issued against him in the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). Interpol member states conduct searches to determine whether or not individuals who have been issued a red notice are in their country.

Sometimes the embassy of the country issuing the red notice is also interested. "The Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu also showed interest in this incident, after which we started monitoring," said an officer of the Nepal Police, "a team was deployed from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Naxal, police headquarters to catch this gang."

Police say that all those arrested belong to Sri Lanka's notorious Nike and drug smuggler Kehelbadara Padye group. He was running an organized crime racket from Malaysia and Dubai. An Interpol red notice was also issued against him and he was arrested from Indonesia on August 25. Local news organizations have also mentioned that Padye was the main planner of Sanjeeva's murder.  According to an officer involved in the

investigation, it has been revealed that the main accused Isara Seubandi, who was at the scene of the murder, has been living in Bhaktapur by renting a room. She had been living there by telling the housekeeper that she was an Indian citizen. "It has been revealed that she has been living in Bhaktapur for a month, claiming to be her home in Bangalore, India. She used to stay in her room most of the time," said an officer involved in the investigation.

According to officials, the shooter Dilsan Piyumanga, who was involved in Ganemulla's shooting, was arrested by the Sri Lankan police on the day of the incident. When the police watched the closed circuit (CC) TV footage of the court premises, it was revealed that Isara, who is now arrested in Bhaktapur, helped Suter. It was found in the investigation that he reached the court premises in the guise of a lawyer with the intention of assisting in the murder. She had hidden the weapon inside the court premises by hiding it inside a book. She had already reached India by sea when her identity was revealed during the

investigation. "It is known that she had spent around 65 lakh rupees to escape to India. It was found that she stayed there for two weeks and came to Kathmandu by land," said the official. Chamira Munasinghe, Deputy Head of Embassy in Kathmandu, also met Home Minister Omprakash Aryal at Singha Darbar a few days ago. Then they were arrested in the operation conducted by the police.

Another accused, the famous gangster of Sri Lanka, Kennedy Bustimpillai, also known as Nike JK Bai, was arrested from a hotel in Thamel. Officers say that the police reached Seubandi based on the information received after catching him. "JK has been in contact with the main Nike, the search was conducted at the place he said," said the officer, "later, after analyzing the technical aspect, it was revealed that he is staying in Bhaktapur." Jeevathasan and Taxi Nanthakumar were arrested from New Bus Park, Mitra Park.

According to police sources, passports were also found with 2 of the arrested persons. They seem to have entered Nepal by air. However, since no documents have been found in the case of the remaining four people, the officials say that all of them may have come to India by sea and then by land to Nepal.

"As they have no crime in Nepal, we are coordinating with the Immigration Department," said the officer, "We are preparing to deport them according to the Immigration Act." A senior official of the department also said that preparations are being made to expel them from Nepal. "Except for three people, they don't even have passports, it has been decided to deport the rest," he told Kantipur. In that case, based on the coordination of the police-police level, each other's country will be charged as a criminal. However, according to Interpol officials, it was not unheard of for Sri Lankan criminals to come to Nepal. Earlier, Saim Hussain, who was involved in the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anna in Kolkata, India, was arrested by the police from Kathmandu in May 2081.

In July 2082, Sheikh Salim alias Salim Pistol, the agent of Nike Dawood Ibrahim of another underground gang (underworld), was arrested by the Indian police from Kathmandu. Even the notorious serial killer Charles Sobraj was arrested by the Nepal Police on 2 October 2060 from Casino Royale in Kathmandu. Nepal Police arrested Ijaz Lakdawala of Nike Chota Rajan group of another underground gang in December 2076.
