Ex-Speaker and Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been charged with gold smuggling amounting to 855 million rupees 28 thousand 374 rupees.
Three indictments have been claimed in the case registered today in District Court Kathmandu. Along with organized crime, the Customs Act And charges related to gold smuggling have been claimed. He has been booked under the Organized Crime Act.
According to the information officer of the district court, Deepak Kumar Shrestha, the case against Mahara will be registered only today, and the statement and arrest will be held only on Tuesday. It will be decided whether to release him on bail or to send him to prison for pretrial detention after the debate on Tuesday.
The district asked for a bail and Mahara will be released after paying the equivalent amount, otherwise he will be imprisoned .
Mahara was arrested on Sunday on the charge of smuggling gold in collaboration with Chinese organized gangs . He was earlier acquitted in the gold smuggling case.
