President Ramchandra Paudel said that the election is the only option for the protection of the country, people, democracy and the constitution and has asked the parties to focus on the House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21.
President Paudel made the request in an all-party meeting with the interim government called at Sheetal Niwas on Friday. Kiran Pokharel, Press Adviser, said that he has suggested to the government to make the necessary arrangements for peace and security to give confidence to the general public to hold elections in a fair and fearless environment.
President Paudel said that to protect democracy, everyone must work together to complete the election. Poudel asked to put it in the meeting if there is any ambivalence and ambiguity in the political parties and asked them to think about where it will lead the country if they start looking for other options besides elections. The leaders of the political parties participating in the
meeting said that the political parties who believe in democracy are always ready to go to the elections and said that the current security system has raised doubts about the elections being held in a fair and free environment. They said that the government should be able to remove this doubt and make them believe that the election will be conducted in a fair, free and fearless environment.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki of the interim government said that the government is well aware of the fact that the election will not take place without the support of the parties, and assured that the government will manage peace and security to ensure a free, fair and fearless election. Gen-jis are the sons and grandsons of all of us, and asked the parties to understand why they expressed such dissatisfaction today and move forward while absorbing the changes. In the
meeting, all the ministers including Prime Minister Karki of the interim government participated.
Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka and General Minister Gagan Thapa from Nepali Congress, Senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokharel and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel from CPN UML, Senior Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha from CPN Maoist Center, and Secretary Barshman Pun participated in the meeting.
Acting Chairman DP Aryal and Co-General Minister Bipin Kumar Acharya from National Independent Party, Spokespersons Gyanendra Shahi and Meena Lama from National Democratic Party, Vice President Rajendra Pandey from CPN United Socialists and Secretary General Dhanshyam Bhushal participated.
Similarly, Renu Yadav from Janata Samajwadi Party, Vidyut Bajracharya and Prakash Adhikari from JSP Nepal, Chandrakant Raut and Dr Jai Kumar Raut from Janmat Party, Gyanendra Jha and Sarvendranath Shukla from Democratic Samajwadi Party, Resham Chaudhary from Civil Liberation Party and Sunil Prajapati from Nepal Labor Kisan Party participated.
