The body of one of the two climbers missing in Mera Peak area of Solukhumbu has been found, while the accompanying Nepali mountain guide has been rescued safely.
According to Tulsi Singh Gurung, President of Nepal National Mountain Guides Association, this incident happened on Saturday. Taejung Park, a 46-year-old Korean citizen, and Temba Sherpa, a Nepali Sherpa guide, went missing after the weather worsened.
Internationally recognized mountain guides Riten Tasi Sherpa and Ashish Gurung, who were sent by helicopter from Kathmandu on Sunday at the initiative of Nepal Mountaineering Association, completed the rescue work on Monday. Chairman Gurung informed that the rescue team safely rescued the body of the Korean climber and the Nepali guide from a height of about 5,800 meters.
According to him, the Korean climber is believed to have died of hypothermia while staying in one place after an avalanche. They met with an accident while returning after climbing the peak. Chairman Gurung said, 'We have rescued both the body of the Korean climber and the Nepalese guide. Guides are safe. "Probably, the Korean climber died of hypothermia because he had to stay in the snow for a long time," he said.
Both Riten Tasi Sherpa and Ashish Gurung are experienced and internationally certified mountain guides. They were specially deployed by the Sangh for commercial rescue operations.
