The death toll in last night's landslide along with incessant rain in Ilam has reached 37. According to the latest information, with the recovery of the bodies of three people who had gone missing earlier, the number of dead has reached 37, said Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Ek Narayan Koirala.
Kiran Thewe, 28 years old, Manmaya Thewe, 18 years old, Munusa Thewe, three years old, Barmalal Songmi, 82 years old, Buddhamaya Songmi, 70, Dhanbal Songmi, 46, Sarla Songmi, 42, and Prakriti Songmi, 14, were killed in the landslide.
Similarly, 28-year-old Suresh Limbu of Phakphokthum Rural Municipality-3, 65-year-old Manmaya Kshetri of Suryodaya Municipality-1 and 10-year-old Rasmika Kshetri, 23-year-old Samir Deujali, Praveen Gurung and Biraj Pakhrin Tamang of Ilam Municipality-6 lost their lives in the landslide.
Similarly, 22-year-old Roshan Limbu of Deumai Municipality-5, 22-year-old Babysa Rai, 30-year-old Deepak Limbu, 27-year-old Rishika Limbu, 10-year-old Dipiska Limbu, 28-year-old Krishna Magar of Deumai-3 and 8-year-old Prinsikha Magar of Mai Municipality-5 have died.
57-year-old Krishnamaya Limbu and 50-year-old Maya Limbu of Mangsebung Rural Municipality-1, 43-year-old Bhim Bahadur Rai of Sandakpur Rural Municipality-1, 66-year-old Harimaya Rai, 47-year-old Devi Rai, 54-year-old Shekhar Rai, 74-year-old Sharda Elderly and 48-year-old Taradevi Rai has died.
Citizens from outside the district who came to Ilam for various jobs also lost their lives in the landslide. Those who lost their lives are Anu Tamang, 32, and Awas Danuwar, 32, of Arjundhara Municipality-6, Jhapa, Saujan Limbu, nine, and Sougat Limbu, 11, of Phaktep, Panchthar, and Neha Rai, 17, of Miklajung Rural Municipality-6. Similarly, 45-year-old Deep Basnet, 44-year-old Bhawani Basnet and 12-year-old Divya Basnet of Dolakha have died.
Similarly, 48-year-old Mahendra Limbu of Ilam municipality-6 went missing in the landslide and police Superintendent Koirala said that the search for him is ongoing. He also informed that the work of collecting the details of the damage is going on. 'Details of damage continue to come in from all sides', said Koirala, 'There is some discomfort due to road blockage, electricity and internet problems, but we are moving on.'
