Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kulman Ghising discussed with the stakeholders today to facilitate traffic management and road safety.

After the discussion, Minister Ghising gave instructions to inform the passengers about the road conditions around the clock and listen to their complaints and manage them. Similarly, he has also given instructions to bring the roads blocked by floods and landslides into operation immediately.

Ghising's secretariat said that in the meeting, there was a discussion to arrange for public vehicles to exit from the Kathmandu Valley through Nagadhunga-Sisneri-Tunnel route and to allow such vehicles to enter after Dasain.

The meeting has decided to request the Ministry of Home Affairs to instruct the Nepal Police to increase the number of police patrols and increase the number of policemen in order to improve the security system in the new bus park in Kathmandu valley and in the various highways of the country.

Due to the poor condition of the highways and priority should be given to the movement of passenger vehicles, it has been decided to request that heavy vehicles (12 wheels and above) not be operated on the lower section of the Butwal-Narayanghat road for the entire ten-year period. It has been asked to make arrangements for continuous movement of vehicles transporting food and other essential materials for that road section.

The meeting asked the road department to do the necessary work to keep the main roads in good shape, to improve them, to manage landslide disasters, to manage the necessary materials and devices, to operate 24-hour two-way traffic on the right section of the Butwal-Narayangadh road, to remove the obstacle (landslide) in the Tuin river of the Narayangadh Muglin road section, to bring the traffic into operation immediately, and to bring the main road connecting the Tatopani border into operation. Instructions have been given.

It has also been decided to issue a public notice requesting the common citizens to travel only knowing the weather and road conditions. The road department has been instructed to manage/get a 'focal person' to operate 24 hours a day to manage the condition and safety of roads across the country.

Today's meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Director General of the Transport Management Department, the Director General of the Road Department, the Nepal Police, the officials of the National Association of Nepal Transport Professionals.
