Federation of Nepalese Journalists has objected to the incident of former minister and UML leader Mahesh Basnet threatening journalist Tekman Shakya. The federation issued a statement on Saturday demanding action against Basnet.
The federation warned the related people not to violate the freedom of the press by threatening the journalists and saying that they can express their opinions according to the law if they disagree with the news. On Friday, the executive editor of 'Naples Times' dotcom Shakya was threatened by Basnet. In a public audio clip, journalist Shakya has threatened him for writing news against him.
In a telephone conversation with Shakya, Basnet said, 'What you have said about me . What will you do if that is not confirmed?' Basnet has also accused the Singh Durbar and the Supreme Court under the leadership of journalist Shakya.
Even after journalist Shakya released the threatening audio clip, leader Basnet threatened him through messages. He threatened Shakya and wrote, 'Be ready to record many calls, father, stay safe, stay happy, don't have any accidents...'
journalist Shakya said that another unknown person also threatened him. "Before he called, a stranger also threatened to kill me by saying 'I am Mahesh Basnet's man,'" Shakya said.
