Modi congratulated her for making history and becoming the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. He expressed grief over the human loss caused by the Gen-G movement.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a phone conversation. During the conversation, Modi congratulated Karki for becoming the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal while making history, while Prime Minister Karki wished Modi a happy 75th birthday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Karki recalled the centuries-old and friendly relations between Nepal and India. The latest political developments in Nepal were also discussed between them.
This is the first formal dialogue between Prime Minister Karki and his Indian counterpart Modi. Prime Minister Karki mentioned that according to the sentiments of the Gen-G movement, the government has prioritized elections. Similarly, she said that the government has started working with determination towards an accountable, responsible and corruption-free governance according to the aspirations of the youth.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Modi said that India's full cooperation and support will be the priority of the Nepalese government. He said that as a good neighbor, India will continue to support Nepal in the future.
"During the talks between the heads of government of the two neighboring countries, various issues including Nepal-India relations, bilateral interests and common interests were discussed," said a statement issued by the ministry. Modi also wished for Constitution Day.
On the other hand, Modi said that he had an intimate conversation with Prime Minister Karki. Posting on social media, he expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the recent Gen-G movement and expressed India's strong support for Nepal's efforts to restore peace and stability.
Modi has also expressed grief over the human loss caused by the Gen-G movement. "Expressing my sincere condolences for the tragic loss of life during the movement, I reiterated India's firm support for his efforts to maintain peace and stability," Modi said on social network X after the phone conversation.
After Karki's swearing in, India congratulated and wished him well. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that it will continue to cooperate with Nepal for the welfare and prosperity of both countries and citizens. "We welcome the formation of a new interim government under the leadership of Sushila Karki, we expect that peace and stability will be maintained in Nepal," said a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Similarly, as a close neighbor, as well as a long-standing partner of democracy and development, India-Nepal will continue to work together for the welfare and prosperity of both countries and citizens.
Before that, Indian Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a political meeting held in Imphal, Manipur state on August 28, congratulated Karki for becoming the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal, mentioning the historic decision made by Nepali youth. He also mentioned Karki's appointment as an example of women empowerment.
Prime Minister Karki has already met the ambassadors of America and China on Thursday. American Ambassador Dean Thompson met with Prime Minister Karki and reiterated the US's support for Nepal's peaceful and democratic journey.
He paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent protests. In the meeting, he also recalled the partnership between the US and Nepal dating back more than 78 years. During the meeting, the priorities of trade, economic growth, disaster management and the MCC agreement, which is the most transformative infrastructure partnership of Nepal, were discussed, Ambassador Thompson wrote in X.
Chinese Ambassador Chen Song also congratulated Prime Minister Karki. In the meeting with Prime Minister Karki, Ambassador Chen wrote in X that there was a discussion on strengthening the friendship and cooperation between China and Nepal.
