What you should know

With the onset of this year's monsoon, the BP highway of IA will be put into operation 24 hours a day from the 1st of October.

The security committee meeting held on Monday at District Administration Office Kavrepalanchok has decided to operate the road 24 hours a day targeting festivals such as Dasain and Tihar as the monsoon is about to leave. According to the committee, the decision has been taken according to the approved road safety action plan by adopting caution in road safety for the convenience of passengers. According to the public information released by the

office on Monday, vehicle movement was completely banned from the first week of last June.

Due to the risk of landslides during the monsoon, traffic operations were suspended for 12 hours during the night from Dhulikhel at Prathan Point Kavrepalanchok to Nepaltok at the border of Sindhuli.

Before this, the last time, from the 16th of August, vehicle operation was banned for another 15 days . Due to the risk, traffic was stopped for 12 hours during the night until the middle of August.

Office has repeatedly informed the public that while the monsoon is active, there is a potential risk of floods and landslides on the BP highway and that there may be a catastrophic event by stopping the operation of vehicles in the mentioned areas of the highway in order to reduce the risk.

Due to the high risk of traveling on the BP highway during the monsoon, the operation of private and public vehicles was banned at night. Assistant Chief District Officer Shrestha said that it has been decided to open the highway completely from October 1st.

According to him, transport operation was stopped earlier due to the danger in various places from Kavrevanjyang of Kavrepalanchok to Khurkot section of Sindhuli. Vehicles going from Kathmandu were stopped at Kavrebhanjyang in the district and vehicles coming towards Kathmandu were stopped at Sindhuli border at Nepalthok.

Earlier, the meeting of the inter-district coordination committee of the security committee officials of Kavrepalanchok, Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts banned the road operation on the BP highway from 6:30 pm to 5 am and for the whole month of July from 5 pm to 5 am.

After last year's flood and landslides washed away eight kilometers of the road under the BP highway from Chowkidanda in Kavrepalanchok to Varakhola in Sindhuli, traffic arrangements were made temporarily. Out of the total 160 km of the highway, the flood damaged 34 km from Khurkot in Sindhuli to Nepalthok and 50 km from the fourth section from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchok.

The office is increasing the contract process in four sections for the permanent construction of the damaged highway . Thousands of vehicles travel daily through this highway, which is a short distance connecting eastern Nepal.
