Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari resigned

He has said that he resigned because he could not bear to stay in power without finding an answer as to how war-like behavior has happened to the generation that should cooperate to build the country.

Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari has resigned from the post.

The minister resigned on Tuesday saying that the government showed dictatorial behavior during the Gen-G demonstration on Monday.

He has mentioned in his resignation letter that instead of accepting that it is the natural right of citizens to ask questions and protest peacefully in democracy, on the contrary, he feels that widespread suppression, killing and use of force is leading to a dictatorial system rather than a democracy.

He has said that he resigned because he could not bear to stay in power without finding an answer as to how the generation that should cooperate to build the country was treated like a war.

This is his resignation

Dear Nepali people,

Hello, Hail Nepal!

I am Ramnath Adhikari from Dhading District, Representative Assembly Constituency No. 2 as a Member of the House of Representatives on behalf of the Nepali Congress and I would like to sincerely thank you for being able to dedicate myself to the welfare of the common people and the farmer brothers and sisters as the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development in the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal from the date of 31st June 2081.

I am always proud of the democratic history of the Nepali Congress that I represent and I am always committed that as a true soldier there will be no compromise on my party's principle that non-violence is the life of democracy.

Yesterday, on 23rd Bhadra 2082, our generation of children warned us against corruption and control of freedom of expression in Kathmandu and in various parts of the country. I wonder if the widespread repression, killing and use of force instead of accepting the natural right of citizens to ask questions and protest peacefully in a democracy is moving us towards a dictatorship rather than a democracy. How did the generation that should cooperate to build the country end up being treated like a war? It was not acceptable for me to stay in power without finding an answer. After killing and oppressing the small children, I have been warned by my brahma that it is against my morals and the education provided by my party to remain in the government by making the country sad and oppressed.

The country should quickly get out of the tragedy of the youth and the people having to protest time and time again and those in power always showing intolerance and violence. In a democracy, there is nothing higher than people's lives and freedom of expression. I wish that the general awareness that our sovereign people are more honorable and respectable than us will develop in those who claim to be 'leaders'.

Hail Nepal!
